A Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to grant a motion seeking to restrain Governor Siminalayi Fubara from spending government funds pending the hearing and determination of a suit filed by the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule.
The court, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, ordered the plaintiffs to serve the defendants with the necessary documents and adjourned the case until August 7th.
Governor Fubara has been under pressure to step down, but he has vowed to continue governing the state, stating that he will not compromise his values and will always stand for what is right.
He made this statement during a visit to Sir Celestine Omehia’s country home in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he urged true lovers of the state to unite and fight to safeguard its interests.
The suit filed by the Rivers State House of Assembly and Amaewhule seeks to challenge the governor’s spending powers, but the court’s ruling means that Fubara can continue to spend government funds pending the hearing and determination of the suit.
The outcome of the case is still uncertain, and the Rivers State House of Assembly is currently in session, deliberating on the next steps to take.
