Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), has criticized APC Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanters, for his remarks on the reinstatement of Emeka Beke as Rivers state’s party chairman.
Eze described Fuanters’ comments as “discourteous ululation” and accused the Ganduje-led National Working Committee of the APC of being “averse to democracy, the rule of law, and a proactive, independent judiciary.”
The controversy surrounds the reinstatement of Emeka Beke and his team as the Rivers state APC chairman, which was ordered by a court after they were ousted by Abdullahi Ganduje over their perceived loyalty to former Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi.
Fuanters had said that the court ruling was “not binding on the Party (APC)” and that the party still recognized the caretaker committee led by Tony Okocha, who is loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Eze argued that Fuanters’ comments showed “barefaced ignorance” and cast doubt on his qualification as a lawyer.
He warned the APC leadership to respect the court’s judgment and allow Emeka Beke and his team to serve out their term to avoid a looming crisis that could shake the party to its “very foundation.”
