Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State recently directed all principals of public secondary schools in the state to refund school fees collected from students in senior secondary school class one to three, now making education from nursery to senior secondary free.

A cross section of the principals who spoke to EkweAnaedo, Mrs Stella -Maris Okoye from Community Secondary School, Aguluezechukwu; Lady Stella Onwuyalu, from Community Secondary School, Amichi and Mr Benson Okeke from Government Technical College, Ihiala, all said that they have obeyed the directive and have refunded the school fees to the students.

They, however, appealed to the government to increase the funds it gives them for running their schools and the Club of Patrons to do more for them.

In their separate remarks, some students from Ezeike High school Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area; Master Chukwuemeka Anazor and Miss Vivian Ojobo both in S.S. two; and Miss Favour Godwin in S.S. three confirmed that their Principal, Mrs Theresa Okafor also gave them back the school fees they paid before the governor’s directive.

They appreciated the gesture and promised to put more efforts in their studies to make their families, state and country proud.

Recall that the free education was previously from nursery to Junior Secondary three but has now been extended to the senior class to enable Anambra children to receive free and qualitative education as well as alleviate the economic hardship on parents.
