A renowned Nigerian influencer, Anne nnebudum, has taken to her social media platform to shed light on disturbing practices within a branch of Nollywood based in Asaba, revealing the unsafe conditions actors endure on set.
According to her, the tragic demise of Junior Pope was a consequence of these negligent practices.
In her own words:
“It’s time to uncover the truth about Asaba film sets. Anyone who has worked there knows the recklessness with which they handle dangerous scenes, putting actors’ lives at risk. This is why I made the decision to leave, as it began to impact my mental well-being. Instead of voicing my concerns continuously, I chose to walk away.
The incident that resulted in the death of a prominent individual is what prompted this outcry. Let me illustrate some of the perilous situations encountered on Asaba film sets:
– They use real anacondas for scenes depicting ‘ogbanje,’ claiming they have supernatural control over the snakes. They then instruct inexperienced actors to interact with these wild animals, knowing the potential danger.
– Another hazardous scenario is the depiction of fire scenes, without proper safety measures in place. There are no fire extinguishers nearby, and raising concerns about safety is often met with dismissal.
– Weapon fights are also staged with real bottles, leading to injuries and even bloodshed on set. Treatment is provided, but the reckless behavior persists.
– River scenes are filmed in uncharted areas, with little regard for safety protocols. Instead, reliance is placed on juju for protection.
Tragically, many aspiring actors have lost their lives in Asaba, their deaths often concealed due to their lack of prominence.
Asaba film sets prioritize superstition over safety, much like Yoruba film sets.
Furthermore, a disturbing trend of sexual exploitation of underage actresses within the industry is soon to be exposed. Even well-known figures engage in this reprehensible behavior.
It’s unfortunate that it took the loss of Junior Pope’s life to bring these issues to light. Otherwise, these tragedies would have been swiftly swept under the rug.
