Some unidentified Gunmen in the early hours of Friday, December 1, 2023, attacked the residence of the Kogi state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lokoja.
The armed men according to the chief press secretary to the INEC chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, engaged the security personnel in a gun battle for over 30 minutes until reinforcement arrived.
Oyekanmi said While no lives were lost, property was destroyed in the ensuing gun battle.
He said a team of combined security personnel have been deployed to protect the residence.
INEC spokesman said the commission has called for a thorough investigation and enhanced security protection for the personnel and assets in Kogi State.
Kogi is one of three state where off Cycle governorship election took place in November. APC candidate Usman Ododo was declared winner by INEC.
