Police, DSS Joint Operation Neutralizes POS Robbery Gang In Enugu

The Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) has successfully neutralized a three-man robbery gang specializing in targeting Point of Sale (POS) operators in Enugu on Sunday.

According to Enugu State Police spokesman DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the gang met its end in a gun duel with security forces. Following the confrontation, authorities recovered arms, ammunition, and their operational tricycle.

The confiscated items included two locally-made pistols, six rounds of 0.9mm caliber ammunition, and N500,000 in cash.

Additionally, various possessions such as rolls of POS transaction printing papers, assorted mobile phones, wallets, bags, and objects suspected to be charms were seized from the criminals.

Ndukwe revealed that prior to the confrontation, the gang had conducted armed robberies on several POS operators and their customers at different locations in Enugu. The criminal activities culminated in a 1 p.m. assault on POS operators in Enugu metropolis.

“In response to the threat, security operatives, upon sighting the hoodlums, engaged them in a gun battle.

The security forces demonstrated superior firepower, resulting in the neutralization of all three criminals and the recovery of the seized exhibits.

He further stated that many victims were able to identify the assailants, linking them to the earlier robberies. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend any remaining members of the criminal gang.
