Police Deploy 4,200 Officers to Foil Violent Protests in FCT

Sharing is caring

The Nigeria Police Force has deployed 4,200 officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to prevent violence during the planned nationwide protest on August 1.

The protest, organized by human rights activists and youths, aims to express displeasure over hunger and hardship.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the deployment is aimed at ensuring public safety, protecting protesters, and preventing protests from being hijacked. The Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, advised protesters to remain peaceful, warning that the police will resist violent protests and lawlessness.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has expressed concerns about the protests, stating that sponsors have alternative passports and hold virtual meetings worldwide. He argued that the protests, fueled by anger and hate, could degenerate into violence and set the country back.

The President assured that his economic reforms are self-sponsored and not manipulated by any interest group.
