Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is nearing a deal to become the new head coach of the USA men’s national team, with talks in advanced stages.

The 52-year-old Argentine has been the primary target to lead the team into the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States.

Pochettino has had numerous offers from England and Europe but appears to be swayed by the opportunity to coach the USA team.

While details of the contract are still being finalized, Pochettino would work alongside US Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker, with whom he previously worked at Southampton.

Pochettino’s managerial career has seen success at various clubs, including Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain. His departure from Chelsea earlier in the summer paved the way for Enzo Maresca to take over as manager, with the club making significant signings and sales in the transfer window.
