In a bid to ensure effective Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) utilisation and adequate immunisation coverage across Anambra, the State Health team has paid an advocacy visit to Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA).
The State Health team led by the Honourable Commissioner, State Ministry of Health (SMOH), Dr Afam Ben Obidike urged that work plan of activities be developed to enable the key stakeholders and LGA health team, monitor activities of their PHCs closely. This, he said would ensure for better PHC service delivery at the grassroots.
Dr Obidike thanked the LGA Mayor, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka for his assured support towards ensuring data improvement in the PHC utilisation and immunisation coverage of the LGA.
He also advocated for monthly report, documentation and presentation from the LGA Health team to Mayor on the finding in PHCs during their monthly visitations inorder for all to be kept abreast on happenings in PHCs across all wards of the LGA.
The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), Pharm. Chisom Uchem explained that supportive supervision by key stakeholders in the LGA would enable the health workers sit-up on their jobs.
“This would ensure that there is no room for lackadaisical attitudes by healthcare providers,” she emphasized.
WHO Anambra State Coordinator; Dr Bonos Mohammed urged for PHC supportive supervision by the Mayor, his Council Members and key stakeholders in the LGA as it would aid strengthen and monitor activities in PHCs.
He also urged for the strengthening of Ward Development Committees (WDCs) which were in every PHC as they would aid to ensure that funds put in PHCs were properly utilised. This would all be achieved through oversight functions, he said.
The Mayor, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka assured of his commitment towards better PHC utilisation and immunisation coverage in the LGA. He noted that together with President Generals (PGs), Councillors, Traditional Rulers, Security personnel and other key stakeholders in the LGA would work in ensuring that there is improvement in the immunisation status of the LGA.
Also present at the advocacy visit, was the Honourable Commissioner, State Ministry of Information; Dr Law Mefor, WHO Public Health Officer; Mrs Uju Ojiagu and Supervisor for Health, Idemili North LGA; Dr Hillary Nkem Okeke, among others.
