Pension Arrears will be Cleared In March – Otti

Sharing is caring

Abia State government has reassured pensioners in the state of its commitment in fulfilling its obligations of offsetting the huge arrears of pensions owed by the past administrations in the state.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State who broke the cheering news Monday night during his usual monthly chat with journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, explained that the government could not pay them the arrears in December 2024 as promised during his electioneering campaigns because of some frauds perpetuated by the past administration.

He assured workers that not only would his government increase their wage, but would ensure a good welfare package for them, even as he reminded civil and public servants in the state that his administration has not withdrawn its promise of creating conducive atmosphere for them.

His word, “we had promised that by the end of this month, we will resolve the lingering pension issues. In our executive council meeting today, we had some resolutions, and soon, pensioners will be settled”.

The governor revealed that his administration is making concrete moves to recover farm settlements built by the defunct Eastern Nigeria government in the 1960s which, according to him, were wrongfully ceded to people who are not interested in rehabilitating them towards serving as centres of food production by the past administrations in the state.
