The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a decisive step against one of its high-ranking members, summoning Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, to appear before its disciplinary committee.
This move comes amidst allegations of anti-party activities, which have sparked concern within the party’s leadership.
According to Ibrahim Abdullahi, the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Wike was formally invited via a letter to appear before the disciplinary committee, chaired by esteemed elder statesman, Tom Ikimi.
This committee was established by the party’s National Working Committee to address issues of anti-party activities and ensure discipline within the party’s ranks.
The disciplinary committee will thoroughly investigate the allegations against Wike, including petitions from party members who have accused him of sabotaging the party’s interests.
Specifically, Wike’s recent threat to cause a political crisis in Rivers State has been widely condemned by the party, with Abdullahi expressing disappointment and describing the remark as “wrong and unacceptable”.
This development highlights the PDP’s commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding its values, even among its most senior members.
As the party navigates the complexities of Nigerian politics, it remains to be seen how Wike will respond to the summons and what consequences may arise from the disciplinary committee’s findings.
