Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State, has promised to make independent and informed decisions if elected governor.
He assured voters that he won’t serve the interest of any godfather or repeat mistakes made by previous governments.
Ighodalo, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), secured the endorsement of incumbent governor Godwin Obaseki, despite Obaseki’s conflict with his deputy Philip Shaibu.
Ighodalo emphasized his ability to navigate political relationships and potential issues with predecessors or godfathers, stating, “I will be a man of my own… I will always seek advice to avoid mistakes, but I will be my own man.”
He also celebrated the Court of Appeal’s judgment affirming him as the PDP governorship candidate, saying the “distraction” is now out of the way, allowing him to focus on the election.
Ighodalo expressed confidence in winning the election, citing President Bola Tinubu’s assurance of a level playing ground.
He promised to improve the lives of Edo people and reverse the impact of federal policies affecting the state.
