Plans to relocate the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management from Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro to Orerokpe have led to protests by the Ozoro Positive Voice group.
The group urges Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to protect the university’s legacy and communal harmony.
This decision, reportedly spearheaded by, chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Mr. Godson Echegile has sparked outrage among members of the group.
With placards in hand and voices raised in unison, the protestors made their stance clear: the relocation threatens not just the institution’s future but also the delicate communal harmony between Ozoro and Orerokpe.
The crux of the protest lies in the proposed move of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Management, a pivotal part of the Delta State University of Science and Technology’s academic offerings.
Dr. Enahoro Michael, speaking on behalf of the group, articulated the group’s concerns, emphasizing the deep-seated familial connections between Ozoro and Orerokpe. “This isn’t merely about geography or logistics; it’s about preserving the integrity of our educational institutions and the bonds that tie our communities together,”
The group’s plea is directed at Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging him to halt the relocation plans and protect the legacy and viability of the university.
