Traders at A. T. D Line Building Materials, Bridge Head Market, Onitsha, Anambra State, mourn the loss of their goods worth billions of naira after a midnight fire engulfed the market.
The devastating fire that broke out in the market has left traders at A. T. D Line Building Materials in Onitsha devastated. Witnesses report that the fire completely razed four shops and affected several others, resulting in billions of naira in losses.
Mr. Chigozie Akabuogu, an Iron and steel dealer, shares the heartbreaking account of losing goods worth over N35 billion in the fire. His sister, Mrs. Onyinyechi Ezekwu, who deals in accessories, also suffered losses of over N25 billion.
The fire not only destroyed their merchandise but also burnt N1 million cash that Mr. Akabuogu had left in his shop. The traders are still assessing the full extent of their losses.
Mr. Ikechukwu Benjamin, a Royal Drail and Rolling Doors Dealer, expresses his dismay and calls on the government to provide fire hydrants in the market to prevent such incidents in the future.
Another victim, Mr. Godwin Nsofor, a sawdust dealer, attributes the fire outbreak to an electrical fault and laments the loss of all the woods he had sawed for his clients.
In response to this tragic incident, the affected traders seek support from the government and the community to recover from their losses and rebuild their businesses.
