A planned one million-man march by leaders of the #EndBadGovernance protest failed to materialize on Saturday due to low turnout, as protesters avoided their usual meeting points which were occupied by security agents.
The march was intended to signal the end of the 10-day protest against economic hardship, but security agencies deployed operatives and mounted roadblocks, leading to a low turnout in various parts of Nigeria.
In Abuja, protesters shunned their usual meeting points, and the turnout was noticeably lower compared to previous events.
In Rivers, protesters were absent on the streets of Port Harcourt and its environs, while in Kaduna, Kano, and Katsina, residents went about their business activities unhindered.
In Edo, the Civil Society Organisations withdrew from the protest on the third day, stating that they would review their strategy.
Despite the low turnout, some groups have threatened to continue the protest, while others are considering lawsuits or petitions to demand reforms.
The Osun State Civil Societies Coalition called for the release of all protesters arrested and detained by security operatives and threatened another round of protests if the Federal Government does not reverse the removal of subsidy on petrol and electricity.
