Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has presented a budget proposal of N703.03 billion for the year 2024 to the state House of Assembly. This budget, titled “The Budget of Sustained Growth and Development,” consists of N287.37 billion for recurring expenditures and N415.66 billion for capital expenditures.He mentioned that it is important to note that his government’s expenditure policy for 2024 is aligned with the objectives of the Ogun State Economic Development Plan and Strategy 2021–2025, focusing on fiscal sustainability, human capital development, food security, an improved business environment, energy sufficiency, improved transport infrastructure, and the promotion of industrialization, with a particular emphasis on small and medium-scale enterprises.
His statement reads in part, “We also prioritise the enhancement of security in the state by implementing additional security networks and communication systems.
Moreover, we plan to install intelligence and on-street transport management and enforcement systems across all three senatorial districts.
Lastly, our administration is dedicated to addressing the housing shortage in the state. As part of our efforts, we plan to construct over 2,000 housing units in various locations, including Warewa, Sagamu, Iperu, Ibara, Ayetoro Road (Abeokuta), OGTV Village, and Ijebu-Ode.Additionally, we are committed to improving water supply through water reticulation projects, thereby providing more households with access to potable water, even as we would refurbish and renovate our technical colleges and vocational centres, ensuring they provide a conducive learning environment.
Furthermore, we have undertaken the construction and rehabilitation of blocks of classrooms, technical workshops, and science laboratories at primary and secondary schools across all four divisions in the state.As of September 30, 2023, we have achieved an impressive 74.39% of the pro-rated revenue target for this year’s budget. We are determined to exceed this target and finish the year with a performance level well above 75%”, he concluded.
