The Ochie Igbo Innovation, aiming to integrate Igbo language into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), will be unveiled on March 15, 2024. Notable Igbo individuals will gather at the ASUU Secretariat, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, to witness the inauguration of the functional committees that will lead Ndigbo into this groundbreaking program.
During a press conference held at the Senate council chambers of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the Executive Director of the OCHIE Igbo STEM Project, Okoro Chinedum Benedict, announced the formation of three key committees: OCHIE Igbo STEM Project Coordination Committee, OCHIE Igbo STEM Curriculum Development Committee, and OCHIE Igbo STEM Igbo Language Translation Committee.
The purpose of the inauguration ceremony is to officially commission these committees and empower them to develop a robust Igbo science curriculum that will endure over time. The OCHIE Igbo STEM Project, which was conceived in 2021, is a collaborative effort between OCHIE Igbo and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Okechukwu Esimone, has expressed his approval and support for this collaboration.
The OCHIE Igbo STEM Project aims to address the challenges faced by native Igbo speakers in navigating the English language. By integrating Igbo language into STEM education, this initiative strives to unlock the potential of Igboland and pave the way for a brighter future.
