Anambra State Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade has reiterated its commitments towards enforcing laws against illegal mining and dredging in the State.
It also vowed to prosecute the violators of the state laws.
This was made by the Managing Director of the Brigade, Comrade Celestine Anere at Bridge Head Onitsha, recently.
According to him, the agency has commenced visitation exercise in parts the state to stop the illegal operations.
Some of the areas the agency visited are Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha and Nibo in Awka south Local Government Area where the brigade arrested defaulters and re-sealed off the premises.
He did the visitation exercise followed the reports by residents that illegal sand mining activities have recommenced in the areas without the provision of the requisite approvals from the State Government.
According to the OCHA Brigade boss this is part of the agency’s drive as directed by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to rid the State off illegal miners and reduce the devastating effects of their activities on the environment.
