…Dissatisfied With Pace Of Work, disengages Health Commissioner.
Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of reconstruction work ongoing at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital.
The Governor made this known during an inspection tour of the project in Benin City, on MondayJuly 15, 2024,
The Governor who in his remarks, noted that the project ought to have been completed two months back, stated that he no longer relied on the now disengaged Commissioner of Health to complete the project, as he would now supervisor all ongoing health projects himself.
According to Obaseki, “This hospital should have been ready about two months ago; and I promised Edo people that I will complete all my projects before I leave. I came to the conclusion that the Head of the Ministry, the Commissioner, does not have the capacity to complete this project. So, I am here with the Directors today to give marching orders that I will now personally take responsibility to supervise all our health projects. We have quite a few of them.
“We have not moved as fast as I had promised our people. So, I am taking personal charge to make sure that we deliver on all the promises we have made relating to the healthcare sector in the state. I am going to be meeting with the Directors, and meeting with them weekly; and this is going to be the new trend. Anybody who does not do what they are expected to do, and who does not have the capacity, will be shown the way out.”
In a letter signed by the Secretary to Edo State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., on July 15, 2024, the former Commissioner of Health, Dr. Samuel Alli, was relieved of his appointment, as the state government thanked him for his services, wishing him well in his future endeavors.
