Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has flagged off the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally for the Edo 2024 Gubernatorial election, in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government area of Edo State, wherein he assured party supporters and residents of the state of continuity in good governance if the party’s candidate is voted in, come September 21, 2024.
Speaking at the rally, Obaseki extolled the leadership qualities of the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie.
According to Obaseki, “I have known Asue for over 40 years. We went to the university together. I was there when he started his law firm. Today, his law firm is one of the best in Nigeria. He has been the Chairman of many big companies. From the time of Abiola, he was with the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) to fight for democracy. But most importantly, he has love for his people.
“For him to have given up so much, he is not looking for money or fame. But all he has is love for his people. So, the person I am handing over to, I know him. I know he won’t disappoint.”
On his part, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, appreciated supporters and residents of the state, promising that he and his running mate would continue with the giant strides of the Obaseki-led administration.
He said: “The time has come for us to continue from where our Governor stopped; taking it to the next level. In about a year, everybody in this state will miss Obaseki for good. There is suffering in the land due to the policies of the federal government. Obaseki has been working to ameliorate this suffering, and my deputy and I will continue from where he stopped.
“We want to ensure that the safety in Edo will surpass any safe place in the world, because when we are safe, all the good things done by Obaseki’s administration will be made evident. We will also see to it that offenders of the law are brought to book.
“We will help our people through agriculture so that we can eat, sell, and manufacture. No country in this world prospers without agriculture and manufacturing. We will continue with the gains Obaseki’s administration has made in the power and education sectors. We will continue the water project the Governor has started in Edo Central. We will run a transparent government like his.”
“We appeal to you to continually support us. We will defend our ballot until we are announced the winner”, he vowed.
