The Nigeria Police Force say no money was paid to kidnappers who abducted 20 medical students in Benue State.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the victims were rescued on Friday by the office of the National Security Adviser without any ransom payment.
The medical students and their accompanying doctors were kidnapped on August 15 while traveling to Enugu for a medical convention.
They were held in the Ntunkon forest, ADO Local Government Area of Benue state, until their rescue.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had ordered the prompt deployment of resources to ensure the swift rescue of the victims.
The rescue operation involved the mobilization of tactical units, advanced helicopters, drones, and specialized vehicles.
Egbetokun condemned the kidnapping of the students, describing it as “truly appalling, callous, and unacceptable.”
The successful rescue operation is a significant achievement for the Nigeria Police Force, demonstrating their capability and commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
