Hon Ikenna Aniagboso, the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi South Local Government Area in Anambra State, has reopened the LGA secretariat for work, nearly two years after it was attacked by unknown gunmen.
The headquarters of the LG, Ukpor, had been closed down for almost two years due to the attack, which resulted in significant damage to different parts of the secretariat. The incident occurred shortly after the current governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, assumed office, and even a nearby police station was targeted and destroyed.
As a result, political and government activities in Nnewi South LGA were relocated to the neighboring Nnewi North LGA Headquarters. However, on Thursday, February 29th, 2024, the Nnewi South LG secretariat was reopened after undergoing major reconstruction and refurbishment.
During the reopening ceremony, attended by House of Assembly members Nonso Atuchukwu and Johnbosco Akaegbobi, representing Nnewi South I and II constituencies respectively, Bishop Ephraim Ikeakor of Amichi Diocese performed the re-dedication ceremony. Other stakeholders and staff of the LGA were also present.
In his speech, Aniagboso expressed his gratitude to Governor Soludo, the homeland security team, Nnewi North LGA, stakeholders, and the people of Nnewi South LGA. He assured everyone of better days ahead for the LGA.
