The Ogun State Government has received knocks from stakeholders for it’s failure to prevent the ongoing strike action initiated by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in the state.
The strike began on Saturday, August 3, 2024, with the primary objective of addressing the pay disparity under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) between federal and state medical workers.
Dr. Azeem Kunle Ashimi, Chairman of the Ogun State NMA, officially announced the commencement of the strike during a press conference held in Abeokuta on Tuesday. It is noteworthy that the Ogun State NMA had earlier given the state government a 21-day notice to address the impending strike action, followed by an additional 21-day notice period. Despite these notifications, the state government failed to proactively avert the strike.
Earlier in July, Wale Adeniran, an advocate for good governance in the state had appealed to the Ogun State Government to take immediate action to prevent the impending strike, but unfortunately, the government’s inaction has led to the current disruption in healthcare services. Adeniran emphasizes the vital role that medical workers play in society and the urgency of addressing their concerns.
In light of the ongoing strike, Wale Adeniran urges the Ogun State NMA to
Continue the strike till government address their concerns.
