Sardauna Walin Wasa, a resident of Suleja in Niger State, was arrested by the Nigerian police on July 26 for his Facebook posts calling for protests.
His post, which read “Protesting is possible in Nigeria. We support the motion. Let’s go ahead,” was deemed threatening by authorities, leading to his detention and transfer to Minna, the capital of Niger State.
In a related development, popular TikToker Junaidu Abdullahi, aka Abusalma, was released from prison custody after being warned by the Department of State Services (DSS) not to participate in the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.
Abusalma was initially arrested for posting a viral video calling for mass protests over hardship in the country.
The arrests and warnings come as the Nigerian government cracks down on dissenting voices ahead of the planned protests. The #RevolutionNow movement, led by Omoyele Sowore, has announced plans for nationwide protests in August, sparking concerns about government repression.
