The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation after a video surfaced online showing Major General G.S. Mohammed and his aide, Corporal A. Abubakar, allegedly assaulting a couple, identified as Mr. Vershima Mker and Ms. Lami Jennifer Iorvihi, in Abuja. The incident reportedly followed a minor road dispute in the Federal Capital Territory, where Mr. Mker is said to have overtaken the vehicle of the high-ranking officer.

In the video, Major General Mohammed and Corporal Abubakar are seen physically confronting the couple. It has been reported that, following the altercation, the officer and his aide handcuffed Mr. Mker and Ms. Iorvihi and transported them to the Gwarimpa Police Station.

Reacting to the incident, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, confirmed that the Chief of Army Staff has ordered a full investigation. According to Nwachukwu, the probe will seek to clarify the sequence of events that led to the confrontation, and the authenticity of the video is still under review.

“The Chief of Army Staff has directed that a thorough investigation be conducted. At this stage, we have not verified the details in the video, as we were not on the scene when the incident occurred,” Nwachukwu explained. “It’s important to understand the full context of what led to this situation. Once the investigation is complete, and we have spoken with the major general involved, we will have a clearer understanding of the events.”

The video has ignited widespread public criticism, with citizens demanding accountability and justice for Mr. Mker and Ms. Iorvihi. Many are calling on the Nigerian Army to ensure a transparent and unbiased investigation, urging that disciplinary action be taken if the allegations are confirmed.
