Kayode Egbetokun has been officially confirmed as the substantive Inspector-General of Police by the Nigeria Police Council (NPC).
The new IGP replaced Usman Baba, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on April 6, 2021.
Egbetokun, who enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, would clock 35 years in service by September 2024.
During its inaugural meeting on Tuesday, which took place in the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, the council affirmed Kayode Egbetokun as the head of the Police.
The immediate past IGP of police, said that Egbetokun’s confirmation follows his satisfactory discharge of duties in the past three months since his appointment on June 20th, 2023.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is governed by a constitutional body called the Nigeria Police Council, which is presided over by the President.
The Council is composed of the Inspector-General of Police, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, the Governor of each state in the Federation, and a few ministries.
