Brothers Across Nigeria International, Imo State Zone, has successfully completed a major community development project by renovating the New Owerri Police Station and constructing a dedicated female cell block.
The initiative, aimed at enhancing justice, safety, and human dignity, was driven by the organization’s commitment to improving law enforcement infrastructure in the state.
Speaking on the project, the Imo State Zonal President, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwokeji, emphasized the need for decent facilities that uphold the rights of female detainees while improving overall police operations. He revealed that after presenting the proposal to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Abideem Salawu, the idea was warmly received, leading to its successful execution.
The renovation covered structural upgrades, repainting, improved lighting, and the provision of essential office equipment, ensuring a more functional and conducive work environment. The newly constructed female cell block was designed with proper ventilation, sanitary facilities, and enhanced security features to align with human rights standards.
Funded through voluntary contributions from members, the project reflects the group’s dedication to law enforcement support and broader community development. Nwokeji reiterated their pledge to maintain the facility annually or biannually, stressing that such initiatives could inspire law enforcement officers to perform even better.
He also attributed the success of the project to the tireless efforts of the group’s executive team, highlighting their shared vision and determination to prioritize quality over cost.
While commissioning the project, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, lauded the organization for its invaluable contribution to the state. He commended the group’s commitment to community development and urged other organizations to emulate their example.
