A group of angry MTN subscribers on Monday vandalized the company’s office in FESTAC Town, Lagos, protesting the deactivation of their SIM cards due to a mismatch in their National Identification Number and SIM registration.
In a viral video, the mob was seen destroying the office’s barricade fence.
However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the situation has been brought under control, and normalcy has been restored.
The vandalism was part of a wider protest by MTN subscribers across the country, who were disconnected due to the Nigeria Communications Commission’s directive to link SIM cards to National Identification Numbers by July 31, 2024.
Subscribers expressed their frustration and disappointment through protests and long queues at MTN offices.
