Nollywood and social media are in mourning following reports that actor and content creator Odira Nwobu has died in South Africa.

The sad news was confirmed by the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, who said Nwobu travelled to South Africa on November 23, 2025, along with eight other influencers on a work trip, but passed away suddenly in the early hours of November 24.

According to him, an autopsy is reportedly being awaited to confirm the precise cause of his death.

The news first broke via social media posts when blogger Stan Ekwe wrote on Facebook that he had just spoken with Nwobu’s Manager, who confirmed that Nwobu was gone, further affirming that earlier reports of an accident were not a prank.

In further confirmatory post, another content creator, Awuzie Frankline, shared a video of Nwobu lying motionless, expressing disbelief, grief, and heartbreak over the sudden loss.

According to reports, the actor, popularly known as “Joseph the Dreamer” (Joseph Ọrọ Nrọ) reportedly collapsed inside his room shortly after spending hours in a club in South Africa over the weekend. Although no official medical confirmation has yet been made public, some online sources are citing high blood pressure as a possible cause for Odira’s sudden death.

Recall that Odira, few months ago (on June 26, 2025), survived a serious motor accident, as he was involved in a ghastly crash that claimed several lives along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. In that incident, he said in interviews that he was travelling with friends when the vehicle attempted to overtake a trailer and crashed. He recalled being pulled out of the wreckage by a bystander in military uniform who used a knife to cut him free.

Odira also shared publicly how he survived spinal compression and other injuries from the crash. His escape from death at that time drew strong reactions from fans and colleagues across Nigeria, many of whom praised his resilience and faith.

Born in 1982, Nwobu had earned fame for his skits, comedic roles, and digital content. He appeared in several Nollywood films, and his online persona endeared him to a large audience. His ability to straddle both acting and content creation made him a compelling personality in the entertainment space.

According to www.igbopeople.org, Nwobu hailed from Umubelle Village in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, but grew up in Enugu State.
