Chidinma Adetshina, representing Taraba State, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, beating 24 other contestants at the grand finale held at Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday night.
The 23-year-old law student’s victory comes after a tumultuous journey, having withdrawn from the Miss South Africa pageant due to controversy surrounding her Nigerian heritage.
Adetshina’s win was met with excitement and applause from the audience, as she was crowned by last year’s winner, Mitchell Ikachukwu.
As the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina will represent the country at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, scheduled to take place later this year in Mexico.
The road to the crown was not without its challenges for Adetshina. She was previously a finalist in the Miss South Africa pageant but withdrew after facing vicious xenophobic attacks on social media and accusations of fraud and identity theft against her mother.
Despite these obstacles, Adetshina remained a fan favorite throughout the Miss Universe Nigeria competition, accruing the highest number of votes and ultimately emerging victorious.
Adetshina’s story serves as a testament to her resilience and determination. She will carry on the legacy of Nigerian beauty and excellence on the global stage, representing the country with pride and poise.
As she prepares to take on the international stage, Adetshina’s win is a beacon of hope and inspiration for young women across Nigeria and beyond.
