The implementation of the new minimum wage by the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Zara stores Awka,
Chief Akai Egwuonwu, has attracted the attention of senior staff members of the Federal Ministry of Labour. Commending Chief Akai during a courtesy call to his office, the officials of the Federal Ministry of Labour in Anambra State observed that Zara Stores is the first private business in Nigeria to implement the New minimum wage. This was revealed by the Anambra State Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour, Mrs. Oji Ogbuehi Bernadine.
The State Controller, who was elated over the implementation of the new minimum wage, extolled Zara Stores’ MD, while commending his commitment to the welfare of his workers.
Consequently, she called on other players in the private sector to emulate this.
Reacting, Chief Akia Egwuonwu appreciated the visiting team for coming and equally maintained that as a businessman, and industrialist, the welfare of his workers is paramount. He also observed that the prevailing economic situation can negatively affect workers’ productivity if not fairly addressed by employers.
