As a nationwide protest against economic hardship approaches, the military has issued a stern warning to organizers, cautioning against any form of violence.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that while citizens have the right to peaceful protest, the military will not tolerate violent gatherings or attempts to hijack the protest.
Buba hinted that some individuals plan to replicate the recent violent protests in Kenya, but the military is prepared to prevent anarchy in Nigeria.
He emphasized that the Armed Forces have witnessed the devastating effects of war and anarchy in other countries and will not allow it to happen in Nigeria.
This warning comes as President Bola Tinubu, governors, and the ruling APC have appealed to Nigerians to shelve the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest, citing concerns about potential violence and instability.
The protest, scheduled for August, aims to address the country’s economic crisis, including soaring food prices and inflation.
