Musiliu ‘MC Oluomo’ Akinsanya has been reelected as the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos chapter for a second term.

The election, which took place on Thursday at the 10th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference in Agege, saw Mr Akinsanya and his deputy, Sulyman Ojora, along with others, elected unopposed.

The reelected executive members, including Mustapha ‘Sego’ Adekunle (treasurer), were sworn in by Adejare Kembi, the principal of Excel Practitioners.

The ceremony was attended by NURTW’s acting national president, Aliyu Issa Ore, former national secretary Kabiru Ado Yau, and Eshomounu Itemoagbo from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment (Lagos).

Prior to the reelection, MC Oluomo had been in a feud with the union’s national leadership based in Abuja.

Expressing gratitude for the support received during the crisis that led to his suspension, Mr Akinsanya praised Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, NURTW, and other stakeholders.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had disbanded NURTW in Lagos amid the crisis, endorsing MC Oluomo, an APC enforcer.

Notably, MC Oluomo served as the official transporter during the 2023 general elections in the South-West, as appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

MC Oluomo, acknowledging the loyalty of Lagos NURTW members, pledged to transform the union.

Lateef Tiamiyu, representing Governor Sanwo-Olu at the event, commended the union for reelecting MC Oluomo, highlighting his exemplary leadership and reformative abilities.

Aliyu Issa Ore, NURTW’s acting national president, emphasized the need for elected leaders to demonstrate exemplary leadership, capacity, and sacrifice.

He urged an open administration that fosters fairness, equity, and justice, promoting unity and harmony within the union at various levels.
