Manchester United have reached an agreement with Napoli to sell midfielder Scott McTominay for a transfer fee of approximately €30 million (£25.4 million).
However, the deal is not yet finalized, as McTominay’s personal terms with the Italian club are still being negotiated.
This is the second consecutive year that Manchester United has shown a willingness to part with the academy graduate. Earlier in August, the club rejected a £20 million bid from Fulham for the Scotland international.
Last season, McTominay, 27, turned down an opportunity to join West Ham and went on to make 32 Premier League appearances and score seven goals for United.
He also started in the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City.
This term, McTominay has been used as a substitute in both Premier League games, indicating that his departure from Old Trafford may be imminent.
Manager Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his squad and recognizes that McTominay’s status as a homegrown player provides more flexibility within the Premier League’s financial rules.
Meanwhile, Manchester United is still pursuing a deal with Paris St-Germain for Uruguay international Manuel Ugarte, but negotiations have yet to yield a breakthrough. The sale of McTominay could potentially aid in securing the Ugarte deal.
