According to the National Bureau of Statistics’ (NBS) latest Consumer Price Index and Inflation Data for July, Benue, Delta, and Borno states have been identified as the least expensive states to live in Nigeria.

These states recorded the slowest rise in Headline Inflation on a year-on-year basis, with Benue at 27.28%, Delta at 28.06%, and Borno at 28.33%.

This means that residents in these states experienced a relatively slower increase in the cost of living compared to other parts of the country.

The data also shows that Taraba, Kwara, and Ondo recorded the slowest headline inflation rise on a month-on-month basis, at 0.17%, 0.62%, and 0.91%, respectively.

In contrast, Abuja, Borno, and Enugu recorded the highest increases in headline inflation on a month-on-month basis, at 3.91%, 3.84%, and 3.76%, respectively.

This indicates that residents in these states experienced a more significant increase in the cost of living over the same period.

However, the report also highlights a positive trend, as Nigeria’s headline inflation rate fell to 33.90% in July, marking the first decline since 2022. Additionally, food inflation dropped to 39.53% in July due to reductions in the prices of staple foods like garri and fufu.

Overall, the data provides valuable insights into the varying costs of living across different states in Nigeria and highlights the need for continued efforts to manage inflation and ensure economic stability.
