Late Anambra Lawmaker, Azuka, To Be Buried On Saturday 15 In Onitsha, Receives Encomium From Colleagues

The slain lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, late Hon Justice Azuka will be buried on Saturday February 15 in Onitsha, Onitsha North Local Government Area.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze gave this announcement at the resumption of plenary in the House on Tuesday February 11 after the lawmakers held a-one minute silence for the departed colleague.

Hon. Azuka was kidnapped on December 24, 2024; his decomposing body was found along the 2nd Niger Bridge, Onitsha about one and a half months after on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

Rt. Hon. Udeze while reading Azuka’s funeral arrangement as announced by his family, said the deceased would be buried on Saturday, February 15, 2025 in Onitsha and a valedictory session would be held in his honour on Friday, February 14, 2025 by 11am at the House of Assembly, Awka.

“On Saturday 15th February 2025, burial mass at St Mary’s Catholic Church Awka Road, Onitsha by 11am. The body will lie at Onitsha Stadium by 10:30am.”

He charged members to attend and be punctual.

Hon. Justice Azuka was sworn in on Tuesday December 19, 2023 following his victory at the Appeal Court. He only served a year and five days at the 8th Assembly.

Untill his death, he was the chairman House Committee on Civil Society Organization, Establishments and Labour Matters as well as the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions.

“His commitment and dedication to duty was never in doubt and he was always ready to learn and ready to serve. He was very selfless in service delivery.

“He was part and parcel of the soul of this Hallowed Chambers”, the Speaker said.

Meanwhile, a condolence register has been opened at the reception of the House of Assembly Complex, Awka for lawmakers, staff and sympathisers to pen down their tribute.
