The Nigerian Army says it has arrested some suspects in connection with the killing of sixteen army officers in Okuama community in Delta state Though the number and identities of those arrested have not been made public, Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said the killed soldiers were surrounded by some community youths when troops of the 181 Amphibious Battalion were on a peace mission in the Bomadi Local Government Area of the state.According to him, the military personnel responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities, both in Delta State, before they were killed on Thursday, March 14.In the meantime the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has ordered a probe into the tragic killing of the officers, four senior officers and 12 soldiers.General Musa however said the military remains focused and committed to its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country. He said the Nigerian Army will do all in its power to unravel the cause of the attackFollowing the killing of the officers, Okuama community came under attack as many buildings were razed down It is not clear who razed the houses in the community or if anyone died from according to reports many indigenes and other residents fled to the neighbouring Ughelli community for fear of reprisals attack by soldiers.Nigerian military confirmed the killing of the soldiers including four officers in a statement on Saturday. The victims included the commanding officer, two majors, one captain and 12 soldiers.The troops were deployed to restore order between two warring communities: Okuama and Okoloba communities in Delta State.
