Kieran Trippier, the 33-year-old Newcastle United defender, has announced his retirement from international football.
With 54 caps for England, Trippier has had a remarkable international career, representing the Three Lions in four major tournaments
Trippier made his debut for England in 2017 and was a key player in Gareth Southgate’s team, known for his set-piece delivery and crossing from out wide
He played a crucial role in England’s surprise run to the semi-finals at the 2018 World Cup.
In a social media post, Trippier expressed his gratitude, saying, “I never thought as a young lad from Bury that I would play for my country, let alone achieve 54 caps.
It’s been one of the biggest honors of my life to represent my country at four major tournaments.
Trippier’s retirement comes ahead of the new UEFA Nations League campaign in 2024-25.
His decision leaves a spot open for Lee Carsley, the interim England manager, to select a new player for the upcoming international break
