Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation, announced that beginning in January 2024, aviation regulators will enforce compensation for passengers affected by delayed or cancelled flights.
Keyamo made this disclosure while defending his ministry’s budget before the Joint National Assembly Committee on Aviation.
As part of the compensation scheme, Keyamo assured the public that a weekly list of airlines that have delayed or cancelled flights will be published in the media.
He emphasized the importance of holding airlines accountable by highlighting their performance, including the duration of delays and the actions taken by regulators.
Additionally, Keyamo proposed that a discount be deducted from the flight tickets of airlines that cause delays, providing passengers with a rebate of 50% or 40% on their next ticket purchase.
This initiative aims to prioritize customer satisfaction and ensure that airlines fulfill their obligations to passengers.
