What could be best described as a tragic fire incident has rocked in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, claiming the life of a tricycle operator and destroying several shops.
According to a press statement released by the Media and Publicity Unit of the Anambra State Fire Service, the incident happened on Friday, November 21, 2025, at about 5:45 p.m., after a tanker transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) reportedly collided with a car and a tricycle along Udoji Road, close to the Ekwusigo Local Government Secretariat. The impact, it was gathered, sparked an intense fire that quickly spread across the area.
The Fire Service explained that it received a distress call immediately after the crash and swiftly mobilized three firefighting trucks to the scene.
The deployed firefighters, described as “gallant” in the statement, were said to have arrived promptly and battled the flames with professional precision, successfully extinguishing the inferno before it could escalate further.
Despite the rapid intervention, the Fire Service confirmed that one person, who has been identified as tricycle (keke) operator, lost his life in the fire.
The incident, the Fire Service confirmed, also affected no fewer than six shops situated close to the crash site, resulting in significant property loss for traders in the area.
The Anambra State Fire Service emphasized that its timely response prevented a wider tragedy, considering the volatile nature of PMS and the heavy human and commercial activity along the busy Udoji corridor.
The statement added that further assessments were ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage, even as the Fire Service reiterated its commitment to responding promptly to emergencies and safeguarding the lives and property of residents across the state.
