With a heavy heart, Governor Uba Sani visited Kuriga in Chikun Local Government, where bandits recently kidnapped primary and secondary school pupils and students. The governor expressed his condolences to the community and assured them that every possible step is being taken to ensure the safe return of the abducted children.
Governor Uba Sani paid a visit to the Palace of the District Head of Kuriga, Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, to receive a detailed briefing on the unfortunate incident that occurred at LEA Primary and Secondary School in Kuriga.
The governor also addressed the community members who had gathered in large numbers to welcome him and share their grief. During his interaction with the community, it was revealed that a brave member of the local Vigilante group lost his life while confronting the bandits.
In response to the Kuriga situation, Governor Sani promptly briefed the President and the National Security Adviser, who provided strong assurances that all necessary measures are being taken to bring back the kidnapped pupils and students.
As part of these efforts, a Security Committee will be established in Kuriga, comprising representatives from key stakeholders in the community, security agencies, and the state government. The governor also pledged to advocate for the establishment of a Military Base in Kuriga, aiming to bolster security in the area. He plans to make a strong case to the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff regarding this matter.
The unfortunate incident in Kuriga has further reinforced the governor’s support for the establishment of State Police. With State Police, there would be a dedicated police force in Kuriga composed of local community members who possess a deep understanding of the terrain, the people, and the challenges at hand.
This would enable them to gather intelligence more effectively. Additionally, constitutionally empowering these officers to bear arms, including sophisticated weapons, would be crucial. Currently, Vigilante Groups are not permitted to carry arms, leaving them vulnerable to criminal elements who show little regard for human life.
Governor Sani concluded his visit to Kuriga by assuring the community that the government remains fully committed to the safe return of the kidnapped pupils and students. He expressed his solidarity with the affected families and vowed to do everything possible to bring an end to such incidents, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in ensuring the security and well-being of all citizens.
