Just In: Anambra Guber: Tinubu’s Style of Appointments Discouraging APC Members In Anambra – Ejidik
Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Anambra State, Hon. (Sir) Basil Ejidike, has said that one of the major challenges confronting the party in Anambra State is the issue of appointments made by the federal government without recourse to the party.
He expressed the concern on Saturday, February 8, 2025, during the official opening ceremony of the party’s office in Awka, by the national champion of the party, His Excellency, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in the state.
Ejidike noted that the trend is inimical to the success and growth of APC in Anambra, as, according to him, the appointees do not reckon with the party at the state level; even as most of those who have made, and are still making heavy sacrifices for the party have not been adequately rewarded and appreciated.
He said, “Many of those who have gotten juicy federal government positions are mainly non party members, drawn especially from our rival All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). This trend has not in any way, served as a source of inspiration and motivation to party members, and it is thus threatening our strength and enthusiasm of emerging victorious in the Anambra 2025 project.
“At the ward, local government and state levels, our members are being discriminated against, as APGA does not recognize or reckon with those who are not their members in the distribution and allocation of government appointments and incentives.
“More worrisome is that what we as a state get from the federal government as incentives and palliatives are usually sent through the APGA led government in Anambra. Sequel to the above, non-APGA members are denied access to them. It is on record that bags of rice sent as palliatives by the federal government were repackaged, and Governor Soludo’s picture and APGA logo embossed on those bags, thereby, giving the impression that they were provided by Governor Soludo.
“This well orchestrated APGA tactics of romancing with the federal government to the determent of our party in the state has continued to diminish our party’s influence and reach within the state, and we are terrified to say the least.”
While calling on the national chairman of the party to intervene in the issue, Ejidike pledged that Anambra APC under his leadership will continue to work hard to achieve the party’s set objectives.
Ejidike also praised Ganduje, saying that APC under the former Kano State governor as national chairman, mean serious business, and has recorded tremendous and strategic successes with regard to elections in the country.
Reiterating the national chairman’s pronouncement after the Edo governorship election victory that Anambra is the next on target, Ejidike said that Anambra APC are already puting things in place, and building strong fraternal bonds that will enable the party win Anambra State come November 8, 2025.
Speaking, Ganduje commended APC in Anambra State, saying that from what he sees and hears, APC in the state are ready to take over from the ruling APGA.
He specifically commended Ejidike and his exco, as well as governorship aspirants under the APC platform, saying that every known political heavyweight in Anambra today belongs to the APC.
He assured that his leadership would give level playing ground to every aspirant, and will do everything within reach to assuage and address the concerns of APC in Anambra; as well as provide every necessary logistics that would make governorship election victory easier for the party.
He, however, urged governorship aspirants to get more united after the primary, as, according to him, such unity would give the party very big edge over other political parties, as the APC house more billionaire and notable aspirants than any other party in the race.
The function was attended by governorship aspirants like Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Paul Chukwuma, Johnbosco Onunkwo and Chukwuma Umeoji, as well as hundreds of party faithful across the state.
