It was a moment of joy and happiness in Ojoto on the 2nd of January 2025, as the wife of the late Senator Annie Okonkwo and mother of Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, Lolo Mrs. Chinyere Okonkwo, celebrated the New Year with widows from Idemili North and South.

The event, which began with a Catholic Mass at the Chapel of Divine Mercy in the country home of Hon. Okonkwo, was organized for widows from the 17 towns of Idemili.

Speaking during the occasion, Lolo Mrs. Chinyere Okonkwo explained that the rice, clothes, and cash gifts she distributed were from The Annie Okonkwo Foundation (TAOF). She said, “The Annie Okonkwo Foundation is a foundation established to carry forward the legacy of compassion, empowerment, and service in memory of my beloved husband, Senator Annie Okonkwo. At TAOF, we are passionate about the welfare of vulnerable people in society, quality healthcare, and scholarships for the less privileged.”

In his remarks, the Honourable Member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, emphasized that events organized by The Annie Okonkwo Foundation are not politically motivated but are meant to continue the philanthropic legacy of his late father. He explained that the foundation, formerly known as the Agunechemba Foundation, was renamed The Annie Okonkwo Foundation to honor his father’s memory. Its primary aim is to ensure that vulnerable people in society have access to quality education, healthcare, and welfare. He further clarified that the event was separate from his food bank initiative and promised that it would be a recurring program.

Rev. T. C. Okoye, in his address, commended the Okonkwo family for their consistent philanthropic efforts. He noted that for over 30 years, the family had been organizing similar events, and he prayed for the continued blessings of the Okonkwo family and the widows.
