JAMB Introduces Verbal Reasoning Tests for Direct Entry Candidates in 2024

Sharing is caring

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that starting from 2024, candidates taking the Direct Entry examination will be required to undergo cognitive and verbal reasoning tests. This decision was reiterated by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a virtual meeting with Education Commissioners from across Nigeria.

The new aptitude test aims to assess the academic potential, career suitability, and mental or physical capacity of Direct Entry candidates. Unlike the traditional subject-based approach, the test will focus on measuring candidates’ cognitive skills.

It will include verbal, abstract, mechanical, and numeric reasoning, data checking, and work sampling. Additionally, Direct Entry registration will now be limited to JAMB Offices nationwide.

Candidates will need to provide specific information during registration, including their previous school’s registration/matriculation number, qualification subjects, awarding institution, institution attended, year of graduation, and admission letters where necessary. These changes mark an exciting development for Direct Entry candidates seeking to showcase their abilities.
