A Socio-Political Group known as Orlu Progressive Initiative, has advocated for harmonious co-existence among citizens of the South-East geo-political zone, geared towards curtailing the menace of insecurity.
The Executive Director of the Group Mr Ikechukwu Nwabueze, made the appeal in Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital during a South-East peace and stability summit.
Nwabueze who is the convener of the summit, noted that the zone must embrace unity and collaboration to create a prosperous future.
He said, “the people must commit themselves to build a region defined by stability, innovation and shared progress”
“The problems have also stifled the zone’s growth, vast economic potential and strategic significance in trade”
He regretted that insecurity among other challenges facing the zone, have hindered its development and exacerbated poverty.
“This has also widened inequality, threatened the livelihood of millions of people despite the zone rich cultural heritage”
Nwabueze urged leaders and stakeholders of the zone to adopt a holistic approach to address its pressing concerns.
“Government alone cannot bear this responsibility, it requires collective efforts of policy makers, traditional and religious institutions”
Contributing, a Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Mr Marcelinus Nlemigbo, urged people of the zone to prioritize agriculture to strengthen its economy.
“We have to return to the days when palm oil formed the bedrock our economy, people should also de-emphasize wealth acquisition especially the ill-gotten ones”
