Indiscriminate Dumping Of Wastes In Awka South Council Area Henceforth Attracts #50,000 Naira Fine -Prince Okafor

The Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor has warned residents of the council area against indiscriminate dumping of refuse, making it clear that defaulters will henceforth pay fine of fifty thousand naira, when caught.

Prince Okafor gave the warning shortly after inspection of an illegal refuse dump at the new government house axis of Awka, where he employed refuse evacuators to clear and evacuate the wastes.

He asked Awka South Council Area residents to always pay their monthly sanitation levi at the local government headquarters, warning that henceforth any scrap-metal-collectors known as “iron condemn”, found in any refuse dump in Awka South will be fined fifty thousand naira, as according to him, they are part of the problems wastes evacuators face in doing their job.

Speaking, the Commander Dobe Awka Ocha, Mr Ikechukwu Ndigwe, assured that the leadership of Awka South Council Area will provide waste-bin in a new site for residents of the new Government House axis of Awka, promising that his team will make sure that there is regular evacuation of wastes in the area and other parts of Awka, and emphasized on the need for Ndi Awka to quit indiscriminate dumping of refuse and to comply with the monthly sanitation levi for a more clean and healthy environment.

On his part, a resident of the new Government House part of Awka, and Coordinator Recover Nigeria Project, Comrade Osita Obi commended the Awka South Local Government Mayor for his intervention in the area, which he said will save the area from environmental diseases and as well complement the beauty of the new Government House.

The Awka South Local Government Area said he will soon embark on sensitization of people in the area on the need to comply with environmental laws and to always pay their sanitation levi for effective evacuation of wastes.
