Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested two female suspects in connection with the reported disappearance of a 16-year-old girl, Miss Oluebube Chukwuma, in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects, identified as Uzoma Nwabueze and Precious Monday, were arrested on the evening of Monday, January 26, 2026, by police operatives attached to the Ozubulu Division.
The PPRO explained that the arrest followed technologically driven intelligence generated by the Command, which led operatives to the suspects in connection with the case of the missing minor.
The Police Spokesman further disclosed that, during interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the disappearance of the 16-year-old girl. He said the suspects further revealed that the victim is currently in Ghana, a revelation that has widened the scope of the investigation.
According to the PPRO, in response to the confession and emerging facts, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a discreet, thorough, and comprehensive investigation.
The Police Commissioner, according to the PPRO, also directed that the investigation should focus on ascertaining the circumstances surrounding the relocation of the minor to Ghana, as well as identifying and apprehending any other person(s) who may be connected in one way or the other to the alleged offence.
“Further updates will be provided as the investigations progress,” SP Ikenga concluded.
