Imo State Revenue Service Clamps Down On Hospitality Sector

Sharing is caring

In a move to bolster tax compliance, the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) has sealed off eight prominent hotels and apartments in Owerri. This action, executed on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, targets establishments accused of failing to remit taxes despite repeated warnings.

The affected businesses include well-known names in the local hospitality industry such as Lavianto Hotel, Titanic View Hotel and Suites Ltd, and Heroes Luxury Apartment. Also impacted are Zoey International Hotel, Benconn Hotel, Hotel Ibis Royale, Hotel Arizona Ltd, and Zeeworld Hotel.

The IIRS, through its Debt Management and Enforcement Department, emphasized that this measure is part of a broader strategy to ensure adherence to tax laws and boost state revenue. The agency has issued a stern warning that the crackdown will persist until maximum tax compliance is achieved across Imo State.

The IIRS has cautioned that severe sanctions, including property sealing and legal prosecution, await any business found evading taxes.

The IIRS reassures the public that funds collected will directly contribute to improving living standards and infrastructure development in Imo State.
