In a major breakthrough ahead of the festive season, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Imo State Police Command has dismantled a dangerous criminal syndicate known for it’s involvement in kidnapping and armed robbery. Acting on intelligence, operatives engaged the gang in a fierce gun battle on December 19, 2024, in Orogwe, Owerri West Local Government Area.
The operation led to the neutralization of three suspects and the arrest of two others: David Ifeanyichukwu (20 years) and Abuchi Joseph (24 years). The gang was linked to the abduction of Osuji Caleb Chimereze and three others on November 12, 2024, during which a Mercedes Benz and other valuables were stolen.
Recovered during the operation were six AK-47 rifles with unique breach numbers (11330, 12102, 3836, 8260, 9940), a total of 131 rounds of live ammunition, a locally made gun, and two stolen vehicles—a Mercedes Benz ML 350 (RRT 469 FF) and a Hijet shuttle bus (JRV 42 XA)—used in various criminal activities.
Tragically, two valiant officers were injured during the confrontation and later succumbed to their injuries. The Command mourns their loss and commends their sacrifice in protecting the lives and property of Imo residents.
As the Yuletide approaches, the Imo State Police Command, led by CP Aboki Danjuma, has intensified its security measures, including increased patrols and synergy with other security agencies, to ensure a safe and peaceful holiday season. Residents have been encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police through the hotline: 0803 477 3600.
