The Imo State Government, through the Office of the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Compliance, has raised concerns over the increasing incidents of “One Chance” criminal activities within the state capital. According to reports, criminals posing as taxi drivers and passengers have been targeting unsuspecting commuters for robbery, kidnapping, and, in some cases, ritual-related crimes. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution when using commercial transport services.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Monitoring and Compliance, Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, has emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety. He recalled that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration had previously introduced a digital registration platform for all Bus Imo vehicles and their drivers. Under this initiative, each registered vehicle is assigned a unique fleet number to improve passenger security and deter criminal activities within the transport sector. He urged residents to utilize this verification system by checking fleet numbers before boarding any Bus Imo, as an additional measure to prevent falling victim to criminal syndicates.
In response to the growing concerns, Nwaneri stated that security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations aimed at identifying and apprehending those involved in these crimes. He assured the public that the government is fully committed to dismantling these criminal networks and restoring confidence in the state’s transport system.
To verify the registration of any commercial vehicle, commuters are advised to visit https://imocitytransport.com/verify and input the fleet number for confirmation.
